CAPABLE 101: THE PROBLEM

August 19, 2022

We work in the Acholi Sub-Region of Northern Uganda. From 2017 to 2020 the extreme poverty rate increased from 33% to 68%.* This is an urgent problem: there are now 1.2 million people living below the extreme poverty line of $1.90 / day.** The vast majority are subsistence farmers; these are our clients.

In the last five years we’ve partnered with 2,653 families, providing the opportunity to over 18,000 individuals to exit extreme poverty.

When every member of a household begins to live above the extreme poverty line, a world of possibility opens: families send their children to school, eat more than one meal a day, heal from trauma, and plan for their best possible future. We believe our communities deserve these opportunities and we commit to the long haul.

Extreme poverty is complex: it’s not merely an economic challenge, so we don’t treat it as such. Next week we’ll look at how our solution focuses resources and access towards achieving durable outcomes.
